Bussotti is an eclectic and multifaceted artist: composer, musician, theater and film director, actor, set designer, costume designer, novelist, poet but also skilled and talented painter.
An art, that of painting, that Bussotti has cultivated and carried on throughout his life, investigating different genres and themes, passing from a more marked figuration to abstract-geometric works, up to works where drawing and score merge into a single image.
Sylvano Bussotti, born in Florence on 1 October 1931, begins the study of the violin and the piano, harmony and counterpoint at an early age. From 1949 to the 1956 deepens the study of composition. In Paris since 1956 to the 1958 frequenta Max German, uncontra Pierre Boulez e Heinz-Klaus Metzger, which will lead him to Darmstadt, where he meets John Cage. It starts in Germany, in 1958, public activity with the performance of his music by the pianist David Tudor, followed by the presentation in Paris of pieces performed by Cathy Berberian under the direction of Pierre Boulez.
He was artistic director of the La Fenice Theater in Venice and the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago. He taught history of musical theater at the Academy of Fine Arts in L'Aquila. In 1980 he was a teacher of composition and analysis at Music School of Fiesole, director of the Music section at the Venice Biennale from 1987 to the 1991.
From 1965 the fundamental aspect of its activity consists of musical theater performances, synthesis of his creative experience made within the BUSSOTTIOPERABALLET, abbreviated name to B.O.B. founded by him. Sylvano Bussotti is an Academician of the Roman Philharmonic Academy, Academician of S. Cecilia, Knight of the order of Marck Twain, Knight of Micky Mause, Honorary Citizen of the City of Palermo Commandeur de l'Ordre des Artes e des Lettres of the French State.
