Catalog published on the occasion of the exhibition Sabinus Galante. Vanity, curated by Alessandra Redaelli and Un Quadro di Te, in collaboration with Laura Tartarelli Contemporary Art, 29 July – 20 August 2023, Sala del San Leone and Laura Tartarelli Contemporary Art, Pietrasanta (LU).
In the pictorial cycle Vanity Galante has rediscovered the beauty in the classical art that inspired him with his iconic models of primitive purity and delicate balance. The artist represents sculptures captured in dramatically human moments, forced into an apparent immobility by the marble with which they are made, cracked and pushed back to life thanks to the luxuriant nature. The stone becomes yielding and soft, it bends under the weight of the thoughts and reflections that oppress every man. The painter's goal is therefore not only to carry out a simple exercise of copying the reality that surrounds us, but also to propose a reflection on the passage of time: the apparently motionless one of marble, the slow growth of plants and the fleeting one of soap bubbles or the flutter of wings. Galante chooses to use another Red string to bring together his works and is the use of blue, color of meditation, of depth and infinity, which helps the viewer to visualize a continuous narrative.
Inside the catalogue, the photographs of the paintings and past exhibitions are accompanied by two interventions by the curator Alessandra Redaelli which help to frame the artist and his works in the contemporary panorama.
