The role of women in Iranian society, the clash between modernity and tradition, the ghosts of bloody past conflicts (Iran-Iraq war), These are all highly topical issues, treated with refinement but without rhetoric, with strength but away from the easiest clichés, by one of the greatest Middle Eastern photographers of our time. From 23 April of 21 June 2015, Officine dell'Immagine in Milan hosts the largest solo show ever held in Italy by Shadi Ghadirian (Teheran, 1974). Curated by Silvia Cirelli, the exhibition represents an unprecedented opportunity to explore the artistic path of this famous performer, from his first works at the end of the 90s to his latest projects.
The Others Me, traces the distinctive features of Shadi Ghadirian's poetics, with a look at the contradictions of today's Iran and particular attention to the female condition in contemporary society. Ghadirian surprises with an expressive imprint that is both delicate and sharp, capable of bearing witness to the complexities and ambivalences of a complex social context such as the Iranian one.
