Albisola is devoted to the concept and practice of residency for artists and designers. In the 20th century its ceramic production stood out and enriched thanks to the meeting between local workers and the energies coming from the rest of Italy and the world. Together with global scenarios, in the 21st century the artisan ceramic sector and the tourism sector have also changed, sectors to which Albisola's artistic production has always been linked. Aware of this, the ACCA Group has decided to work on an annual residency program, supported by public and private bodies, to support and facilitate the presence of young Italian artists and designers in Albisola. Beyond this public program and like other local entities (critics, artists and craftsmen), the ACCA Group works throughout the year to facilitate collaboration between the Albisola ceramic factories and artists from other cultural and geographical areas. Different from this cultural promotion and organization activity, the public program Albisola Artists in Residence. Give out your Best in Ceramic has the ambition of becoming a permanent residency site, which offers the constant opportunity for artists and designers to get to know Albisola and for local ceramists and artists to make use of fresh and proactive collaborations.
THE FIRST FOUR EDITIONS: RESIDENCY & WORKSHOP
Every year the project can be implemented in the Residency mode or in the Workshop mode.
In the Residency mode, a quality jury selects three artists on the basis of a "call for artists under 35" promoted by GAI – Liguria headquarters. The artists are hosted in Albisola for a month: they visit the artistic and cultural emergencies of the area and choose the laboratories in which to produce their works. In Workshop mode, instead, the curators of the project invite young artists and designers to participate in events promoted by the ACCA Group in collaboration with local organizations and artisans. Artists and designers are hosted in Albisola for a short period, during which they collaborate on the discussion of a theme or on the creation of prototypes and monotypes.
