PRESS RELEASE

The care of the art, inner worlds that emerge to illuminate the darkness of the mind in which it is difficult to penetrate. Art and Psychiatry, two areas very often in combination, when the opportunity to express themselves and the cathartic value of the artistic gesture may be a way for the patient's recovery. This is the spirit of the "Portraits of an author", exhibition project pursued by the Fondazione Milan Onlus Ligea, born in order to bring patients to make an evolutionary path through a service that integrates aspects of psychotherapeutic, rehabilitative and pharmacological. The project "Portraits of the author" is an exhibition of works by the patients and the Foundation of thirty professional artists of the contemporary world, called upon to develop through a dual path multiform expressive models with a common theme: portrait of woman. "That is commonly called art therapy clinical experience that focuses on the practice of his expressive phenomenon," says Martina Adamuccio, young art critic curator of the exhibition. "It is a very useful technique, therapies in use in both childhood and adolescence in both psychosis and personality disorders in adulthood. Drawing, use the colors on the leaves, build forms, modes of expression are simpler and easier to implement than the words and the formation of a discourse, and then, lead the individual to express themselves in a more spontaneous. The artistic production, in fact, is shown, has a positive effect on patients suffering from mental disorders and psychosis of a different kind ". The thirty-one contemporary artists that counterbalance to patients as a guide, ideally accompany patients in the exhibition, and at the same time bear witness to the "outside world", in order to eliminate barriers to open up to a unique world in which freedom of expression is the common denominator. At the conclusion of the exhibition, all the works will be put on auction and the proceeds will be invested in research activities of the Foundation.

Lorenzo Canova, art critic and author of one of the texts in the catalog, stresses: "There is no doubt that such an experience of collaboration between artists and people with disabilities exceed the size of the laboratory and therapeutic reaches the great achievement of people who manage to break the prison of his own psychic discomfort and find a new form of communication and interaction with the world the surrounding, with which they are integrated in a creative and constructive, doing in some cases rise to new authors with their own poetic and an autonomous language. Professional artists of this project of excellence thus receive the gift of seeing their work become more alive and, in a sense, even functional, thanks to the comparison with persons intended not only to receive, but also to give their contribution existential, emotional, of thought and creativity, building a bridge fruitful exchange for all the actors involved here-authors and to give life to art and a new face ".

Chiosa Giampietro Savuto, President of the Foundation: "In the many years that I have followed those affected by this disorder, I have seen the importance of the activities of an artistic form of expression of thoughts, feelings, emotions that would otherwise remain silent, of an inner life sometimes unfathomable in other ways. Rest, all forms of artistic creativity often have had a relationship with mental distress, as evidenced by the long list of poets, musicians, painters who have been touched and in some cases overwhelmed. If the evaluation of the artistic value is the task of art criticism, even psychology can then tell her. As a Foundation Ligea we always tried to awaken the creativity of our patients: we have created services that refuse an intervention logic legislation and approval and help them find their own expression of life ".
