AQUA AURA. The attempt at a biography

Lives and works in Milan.

Training: Academy of Fine Arts of Brera, graduation year 1992, subsequently… he continued his education around the world.

“Aqua aura is a term used to describe a natural crystal that has been coated with gold fumes. It is created in a vacuum chamber from quartz crystals and gold vapor by a process known as vapour deposition. The quartz is heated to 871 °C (1600 °F) in a vacuum, and then gold vapor is added to the chamber. The gold atoms fuse to the crystal’s surface, which gives the crystal an iridescent metallic sheen. The process was awarded the United States Patent No. 6997014 on 14 February 2006.”

Aqua Aura is the result of a physical-chemical process, a valuable transformation due to a heat treatment with the vapors of gold capable of changing the appearance color of a natural crystal (the quartz) without affecting the shape and the texture just imperceptibly.
In the read process, as presented in the descriptions that you can find on the net, the operation may remember from near an ancient practice of alchemy, perhaps more valid for the activities of a smoky forge fifteenth for a workshop production of contemporary images. The path seems to be traced by a pseudo scientist in the field of natural philosophy, intent to investigate the matter and take new orders, reading fluctuating between physics and metaphysics of things.

It is from this charming artifice that Aqua Aura was inspired to describe and assert its artistic transformation, occurred after a period of creative and expository accomplished on the field in the nineties - working closely with Italian art galleries and curators, participating in various group exhibitions and taking some personal - and a subsequent period, along about twelve years, spent at a safe distance from the art world, lived only by the researcher in their, spectator and traveler.

Aqua Aura is therefore a (ri)birth, occurred through a slow metamorphosis aware that generated new creative ideas and a stronger thematic section.

The keen interest in the photographic medium, which later will mark as his main medium of photography, occurs during a trip to Iceland during the 2006.

The photographs in this trip are born as annotations and fragments caught in a strict black and white. This process of collecting and suggestion is continued in the next three years along trails and travel routes between Europe and the Middle East. At this early stage pictures taken do not want to configure as part of "photography as art", at least not in the meaning that art today seems the most shared. They do not have that as a goal to pursue paths more or less complex in an attempt to define a new identity and nature of the photographic language of the contemporary horizon. The only task that required Aqua Aura of these images was to become documents and simple looks with a strong inclination to the problems of light. In a sense, you could already define those jobs as "portraits of the landscape", quietly nestled in the teachings of the tradition of shooting "en plein air" Photographer travelers. On this horizon, obviously, refers to the lessons of the masters historicized, Ansel Adams of Edward Weston, but Edward Steichen, and in general the American school of landscape.

Aqua Aura debuted more specifically in the area of ​​art photography as a research tool in 2010, this time as a result of a study tour in Spain, Belgium and Holland. The nuclei of the new survey focused on the "discipline" of the portrait, one side, and the attempt of a reinvention of the idea of ​​landscape on the other. In that year, comes to life in a series of photographic light boxes, a kind of pseudo portraits titled Potraits SURVIVANTS, aesthetic whose debt is fully traceable in the wake of the great seventeenth-century painting tradition rather than in the photograph properly understood. It is a collection of images taken in studio and then "reconstructed" in the studio through a tenuous or sometimes incisive intervention in post production. The result is the result of a long process of designing pre-snap, constructed by the author pursuing personal visions but also willingly, the contribution that the stories mute portraits of individuals transfused in the design flow of the works. The next year the series takes shape FROZEN FRAMES that represents the experimentation on the idea of ​​landscape, places and mental spaces while in the realism of the photographic medium, in which the reinvention conducted in the laboratory with the tools of post-production is of great importance.

I would like to point out that this biography was born as a hybrid, as a selection and cloning of texts that others have written to somehow define the identity and activities of Aqua Aura. I have not done anything but unite and sewing of parts into a temporal succession but redefined logic. I apologize to those who provided the original material if their work has been defragmented or upset, but I am convinced that describe the delicate art should always be carried out from outside - outside himself - and the best way, accordingly, is that others do. Speaking of my works from the series FROZEN FRAMES, Alessandro Trabucco - in the text of the press release for the exhibition in Reggio Emilia - called them "natural hybrids", images as creatures of Frankenstein, sections extracted from different realities; Well I can say that this attempt at biography is configured as a hybrid which is also extracted from the thoughts of some and amalgamated into a single body, un’istantanea.
