Willy Verginer da Ortisei (BZ)

How your way of working has changed?
During the quarantine, I was lucky enough to be able to work in my studio which is close to home for most of the period. Only in the first week after the lockdown began I was unable to work, I lacked concentration and everything seemed surreal and ghostly. In those days I spent time with drawing and reading. After the first shock I returned to the studio. The sculpture takes longer both for design and for realization. So I didn't change much and continued with the projects I had started some time ago.

How do you imagine the world, when everything will start again?
Coronavirus is a pandemic that has affected the whole world. Few events in history have affected all of humanity in the same way and at the same time as this. I am not up to the point of understanding the economic damage that will follow. Thinking about the history of humanity in a broader way, I see it as a period of little importance.
If in a short time everyday life will begin, I think it's like driving a car in a frenzy and the coronavirus is just a sleepover. As soon as we wake up we will continue with the same speed and in the same direction. In my opinion, what will change the world is the environmental problem that will have a completely different impact on our lives. In these days of epidemic we have forgotten the real problem that surrounds us.

We are dealing with a new time and space. What are you discovering or rediscovering about yourself?
In these days of quarantine, I realized that time has another value. From one day to another, the short-term commitments were canceled. Time no longer played the role it had. In addition to the silence that surrounded us, the time available had increased, in the study you were not disturbed, time did not run, ideal time for creativity.

Willy Verginer He was born on 1957. In one of the first personal exhibitions, in the Spatia Gallery in Bolzano and curated by Danilo Eccher, the works were abstract, Wood, with the combination of natural materials. Years of research followed, of crisis and not very creative years. In 2005 presents itself again in the art scene and exhibits in Trento in the Castello Gallery. Verginer radically changed the style and presented himself with figurative works. In the years 2013/2014 starts a new cycle called Treehouse. The first solo exhibitions of this cycle take place in Lissone in the Museum of Contemporary Art and in the Ianchelevici Museum in La Louvier Belgium. In recent years Verginer has focused on the theme of the environment. In Detroit, Michigan in 2017 exhibits a large installation in the Wasserman Projects gallery. This exhibition in Detroit can be considered the best example of the maturation of the theme of the environment in Verginer's works. The latest exhibition project, Hopscotch, was built in the autumn 2019 in Tel Aviv in the Zemack gallery. His reference gallery is the Raffaelli Art Studio, Trent. www.verginer.com
